What is Reading Intervention?
Reading Intervention is designed to give students an extra dose of small-group reading instruction during the school day. They will receive 30 minutes of small group instruction, four days per week. During these groups, a specially trained reading instructor will focus on building fluency, reading comprehension skills, and overall reading strategies. They will also incorporate the new common core standards for reading comprehension and writing into their lessons.
Students will receive reading homework a few days per week, which will include rereading of a familiar book and discussing or retelling the book to someone at home. Please be sure to check that your child reads every night and returns their homework envelopes daily. Reading familiar books aloud to family members is a great way to improve reading fluency at home.
We look forward to working with your child this session, and his/her success is our top priority. Students will be enrolled in Reading Intervention for 7-10 weeks and may or may not continue throughout the school year. Please feel free to email us with any questions or concerns you may have.
